(Redwood City, CA) Mark Church, San Mateo County Chief Elections Officer and Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder, announced today the opening of the candidate filing period for the November 3, 2026, Statewide General Election.
For candidates seeking elective office, the filing period opens at 8 a.m. on July 13, 2026, and closes at 5 p.m. on August 7, 2026. If an eligible incumbent does not file for re-election, the filing period for that office will be extended for an additional five (5) calendar days, closing at 5:00 p.m. on August 12, 2026.
Individuals interested in serving their communities through elected office are encouraged to contact Candidate Services at CandidateServices@smcacre.gov or call or text (650) 312-5222 to schedule an appointment. Candidate Services staff are available to assist prospective candidates by reviewing the filing process, required forms, filing deadlines, eligibility requirements, and other information necessary to complete the candidate filing process.
Candidates for Federal and State offices were determined based on the results of the June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election. Individuals seeking election to city offices must obtain and file their nomination documents with the City Clerk's Office in the jurisdiction where they intend to run.
